Cleaning seed is an integral part of seed saving. Our seed cleaning screens make the job easy and efficient. There are basically two different types of screens: Scalper screens are used to catch large debris while allowing the seed to fall through. Sieve screens are used after the seed has fallen through the Scalper screen. Sieves retain the seeds while allowing dust and smaller particulates to fall through. Our seed cleaning screens are made of perforated, heavy gauge, steel or wire mesh and solid cedar frames. The 12½ inch square frames (9¾ inches of screen area) are crafted to interlock snugly when stacked, permitting the Scalper screen to nestle atop the Sieve screen. The end result is easy, one step seed cleaning. We offer a range of screen sizes that can be used for popular garden seeds. The recommendations listed next to the screen sizes are for allowing the seed to fall through the screen (scalping). The 3 smallest screens can be used as sieves.
