Growing to 24-36 inches tall, it yields ample amounts of green manure and attracts beneficial insects to its blooms. As a dense cover it is effective at suppressing even the most aggressive weeds. It can grow in nutrient-poor soils, and its brittle stems and roots are easy to break with a hoe. It mines insoluble phosphorus from the soil, and once tilled under, releases the essential element for other plants to utilize.
