Growing Information - Herbs

Culture-Most herb seed varieties should be started indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date. For the most tender of the herbs, waiting until June is advised. For best germination plant the seeds in the seedling tray and cover lightly. Maintain a soil temperature between 60-80°F. Keep the seed moist until germination. When the second true leaves appear they are ready for transplanting, but be sure they have been hardened-off by fluctuating the light and temperatures before setting outside.
Germination Code-For more detailed information on seed germination requirements, refer to the following codes.
(1) These herb seeds germinate best between 60-75°F.
(2) Larger herb seeds need to be planted a bit deeper, at least as thick as the seed itself. They may also be slow and erratic to germinate.
(3) These seeds need a period of cold stratification for successful germination. Keep the planted seeds warm and moist for 2 weeks, followed by cold temperatures of 33-35°F for 4-6 weeks, or until germination occurs.
(4) No special needs, but you should be aware that the germination on these varieties could simply be slow and erratic.

See individual varieties for seed counts.
A - Annual
B - Biennial
P - Perennial
